Pakistan Flood Incident Reporting. Provides first line of communication to 18 million people affected
by floods on short code 3441.
Devastating floods in Pakistan have claimed over 1600 lives and displaced over 18 million -- or 1 out of every 10 people in the country -- and the disaster shows no sign of abating. Significant resources are flowing into the region to provide immediate relief. But access to relevant, up-to-date, timely, and authentic data from the affected communities, specifying the hardest-hit areas and precise locations of displacement, remains elusive.
Mobiles and SMS reaches to maximum people in Pakistan. Especially true in crisis situations where cell phone is the only support available. People can SMS their situation for our volunteers to verify, map and put on pakreport.org with location.
In disaster there is too much disorganized data or no data at all. In addition to real time on ground information for immediate response it will provide a platform for structured, reliable information to use forbest ways to cope with disasters.
Let us to be an effective first line of communication between flood affected community in Pakistan and the world. - Faisal Chohan, Founder Pakreport.org
