Youth-Pear Education and Awareness Campaign to reduce Extremism is an initiative of Chanan Development Association (CDA) Pakistan. The vision of the campaign is to create a culture of equality, acceptability, and tolerance among youth for establishing a just, democratic, non-violent, peaceful and harmonized society. We aim to train 1000 young peacebuilders in Pakistan (particularly in conflict areas) by organizing “Young Peacebuilders Workshops” and engage another 10000 in peace activism.
Any incident of conflict in any area of Pakistan increases the tension among majority and minority groups and the strong possibility of religious/cultural conflict prevails in the country. Youths were involved in 225 suicidal attacks in past three years all over Pakistan in which more than 4000 people died which is the worst example of how young people were exploited by extremists groups and why it is important to engage young people in peace activism.
To achieve the mission of the campaign, CDA plans two main strategies: • Training 1000 young peacebuilders in Pakistan (particularly in conflict areas) by organizing “Young Peacebuilders Workshops” • Engaging 10000 young people in Peace Activism to Counter Extremism by organizing exchange visits, interactive dialogues, and sport and cultural events.
The value added of the campaign is the practical interaction, exposure and opportunity for the marginalized young people to explore and learn other cultural and religious values and perspectives of tolerance, peace, equality and respect in order to create a harmonized and peaceful society that ensures mutual respect and acceptance for everyone.
