Summary
This project is aimed at empowering young girls 16-19 years who are into prostitution with alternative means of livelihood.the project will assist them to receive training that will empower them with vocational skills. and also assist those that can be reintegrated into back into the school system to do so. This is necessary to secure their health and future.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
It's a global problem. The facts abound from community to community round the world. Approximately one-quarter of girls in developing countries are not in school. there is the strong need to change this trend by empowering 60 girls 10-19 years in Sakponba community.The girls get the needed life skills, sexual & reproductive health training,those that can be re-integrated into the formal education system return to school,& get alternative source of livelihood and thus get a secured future.
How will this project solve this problem?
The project's holistic approach covers issues of teenage prostitution,violence against girls,HIV, STD, unintended pregnancies, life skills,sexual & reproductive health training, vocational
training/job skills, school re-integration in order to lift girls out of poverty and give them a secured future.The girls get the needed life skills, sexual & reproductive health training,those that can be re-integrated into the formal education system return to school,& get alternative source of livelihood
Potential Long Term Impact
The girls get the necessary vocational and educational skills this will equip them to contribute to their family and community and thus will end poverty in it self, she is no longer vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. She is able to get a job or start her own business. Takes care of her family and will not need to sell her body.
