Progress Report for Nepal Orphanage

We would like to thank everyone for their donations to the orphanage in Nepal.  Global Reach International is working hard to continue our support to children in need.   Donations that are given to the charity go 100% to the children in need.  If you would like to visit the orphanage on our next trip in March 2012 please let us know.  Bill Sansone, a former Peace Corps Volunteer of Nepal will be bringing a group of volunteers to the orphanage during this time.  We will also be streaming live feeds during our next trip for donors to see where their money is being spent.

Funds that have been distributed have gone to help with food and clothing of the orphanage.  Funds that are currently being raised will be used to help paint, repair, and buy educational materials for the children. In January 2012, one of our board members will be going to Nepal to visit the orphanage to distribute funds for the repair of the building.  A follow up trip is scheduled for March 12 – 23, 2012 to take photos and video of the progress.  During our March trip we will also set up computers and purchase new educational material for the children.

Another goal of Global Reach International with this orphanage is to set up a video line for people in the USA to interact with the children in the orphanage.  The live video feed will be through Cisco Systems.  We want to communicate with the children on a daily basis.  We also plan on having classes in the future that the children can interact with through the live video stream.

If you are not aware already, we are offering a Gift for good this year for every donation over $100 to help support the orphanage.  $100 will get you a Bamboo scarf hand made in Nepal.  The website you can find this at is: http://www.globalgiving.org/dy/v2/gifts-for-good/detail.html?projectGift.id=7

Thank You,

Volunteer from the field in Nepal

Namaste,

Now that we are in our second half of our Global Reach donation journey I wanted to summarize our successes this year. We have completed seven programs this first month.

Four Eye Programs
-Low vision- we again worked with Hari Thapa to identify and correct low vision cases with special lenses, small hand-held telescopes and magnification devices from the Lumbini Eye Institute.
-The School Screening Program from the Bhratpur Eye Hospital will examine the eyes of 7-8000 school children this year in the remote areas of Chitwan province.
- Butwal Lions Hospital received our second year donation for 100 to 110 pair of new glasses for destitute children.
- eye medicines will be given free of cost to patients at the Remote Eye Camp programs at the Himalays Eye Hospital in Pokhara. Surgeons and hospital personnel travel for days to provide eye care to these remote areas.

- Two blind homes, one at Pyuthan with 10 children and the other at the Santi Blind school with 27 children, were provided with braille paper, fluorescent lighting for low-vision children, clothing and bedding, food items and day to day necessities for our 5th year

-Mina Devi's Orphanage with 14 children in two rented rooms was given our $500 gift for school supplies and other items for the 4th year. A five room home is being built for her by a local Nepalese business organization.

We don't do this alone. So many persons here in Nepal and at home have helped us do this work. I want to thank one and all.

It has rained steadily for two days now. Pools of water and mud are everywhere, the temperature is between 50-55 degrees with no heating and there is six hours of electric a day but i would not trade the joy of doing this work for anything.

thank you again,
mike sir

Orphanage

Hello

We would like to thank everyone for helping us raise money for this cause.  In March 2011 Global Reach International will be bringing a group of volunteers from New Jersey to work on the orphanage.   All money raised will be used during this trip.  The money raised on Global Giving will be used to buy paint, food, beds, and supplies for the orphanage.  Volunteers will be using their own money to travel to and from Nepal.  While the volunteers are in Nepal they will painting, teaching, setting up computers, and working with the children.  On our trip we will take plenty of pictures and video to show where your donations have helped.  Please check back to see the progress.  As of now we have no pictures to post until after the trip is complete.  If you would like to talk to us about this project please contact us at 973-948-4101.  We look forward to talking with you.

Thank You.
