BERUDA's Orphan Education Through Goats project provides a sustainable means for orphans to pay school fees in Fundong, NW Cameroon. It targets 20 primary school-aged orphans not currently attending school by donating goats for breeding and sale at market. Your one-time donation is enough to fund an orphan's entire education. BERUDA is a grassroots charity that works to eradicate poverty and raise living standards in its communities through sustainable income-generating initiatives.
The number of orphans in Cameroon is immense. Many die young; life expectancy is only 45 yrs due to extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS and poor healthcare. 48% of people live below the poverty line. When orphans can`t afford school, it can result in child labour, trafficking and prostitution. The solution lies in education. But orphans are often left behind again, as primary fees total $70/yr. Of the 107 orphans in Fundong Village, 20 are primary aged and do not attend school. We can change this.
We are targeting orphans at primary level not attending school. With a one-time donation, you can ensure they receive a full education. Here's how it works: 1) You make a donation of any amount (every little bit helps!) 2) We give 3 goats to each orphan's carer (2 girls & 1 boy) 3) We pay the first year of school fees (until kids are born) 4) Kids are sold annually to pay school fees 5) Goat kids can earn $60-$150/yr (goats cost $30 - any extra is saved for next year's fees)
You will help completely transform 20 lives - this impact will last a lifetime, and will impact the village well into the future for next generations. You will also be responsible for educating 20 orphans and their families in small business management (rearing goats), which supports current farming activities and helps drive the local economy. Our goal is to leave no child behind. We can decrease unemployment and child labour by ensuring all children in Cameroon receive a proper education.
