SPPD run a Children's Home for the orphaned, abandoned, HIV affected, and very poor children who have dropped out of school. We provide accommodation, food, uniform, school books, adequate stationery, and health care. Many of these children have been with us for the past seven years and a few of them have finished school and now pursue higher education. This project will help the children at our home receive their denied rights - Food , shelter, Clothing, education, health care.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
SPPD operates in semi-arid area of Trichy districts. Due to irregular monsoons, this area is prone to seasonal migration. Nearly 80% of the community is forced to move to nearby districts seeking jobs as lorry drivers, cleaners, servants, textiles work(especially girls with forced agreement for 3 years),etc. Children in such families are left without attention&most of them are early school dropouts. Due to parents' neglect they lack proper food, education, love&care which deteriorates their health.
How will this project solve this problem?
30 children will be provided with free accommodation, food, uniform, school books, adequate stationery , life skill and health care. They will transform from undernourished, unkempt illiterates to healthy and happy youngsters. Many of these children will be the first in their families who can read and write.
Potential Long Term Impact
Many of these children have been with us for the past seven years, a few of them have finished school and now pursuing their higher education. They have transformed from undernourished, unkempt illiterates to healthy, happy youngsters most of whom have completed ITI, civil engineering, nursing / paramedical courses. They will have more opportunities to support their parents, siblings or other relatives in the future.
