Summary
To meet the growing need, Oregon Food Bank needs to grow as well. We are purchasing a warehouse in Washington County- called Oregon Food Bank West.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
This new facility will allow us to engage more volunteers and capture new sources of food. A portion of the food captured at this new facility will be made available for statewide distribution. Agencies and community leaders are thrilled with this site as the new home of Oregon Food Bank West. The facility will more than double our current home which will equal more food for hungry families, not to mention the improved dock access, safety and streamlined pick-up procedures for agencies.
How will this project solve this problem?
Everyone will benefit from this new facility. Volunteers will have a state of the art volunteer action center. Agencies and clients will benefit from an increased food supply and streamlined distribution system.
Potential Long Term Impact
OFB West will be a permanent processing, distribution, education and community meeting facility- a model of food banking for the 21st century. A place where neighbors gather to fight hunger and feed hope.
Project Message
"Capacity at our Washington County facility has reached its limit. At the same time, the need in Washington County is growing dramatically."
