Opportunity International offers a variety of loan products, including cell phone banking, to enable Kenyans living in poverty to transform their lives.
Only 23% of Kenya’s 39 million people have access to banking services. Thirty-two percent of the population lives beyond the reach of bank branches, while the rest simply do not qualify for access to traditional banking. Following the elections in December 2007, the need for stable financial structures in Kenya became increasingly apparent as the country faced violence and significant political unrest.
Opportunity Kenya was established in 2006 and operates in the Western Province of Kenya, an impoverished area plagued by HIV/AIDS, and in the Nairobi area, where urban slums are home to millions who struggle to make ends meet.
Through your contribution to this initiative, you are helping to expand access to financial services so that more people in Kenya will be able to secure their savings, borrow capital for their businesses, and receive business training.
