At Mamafrica, we work to change the commonly known narrative of the women living in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from victim to SURVIVOR. We are calling on all men and women this Valentine's Day, February 14th, to RISE UP for JUSTICE and support the women of DRC. At Mamafrica we help women to become leaders in the community, educate their children, and break the norm of a male dominated work force. With your help we can RISE UP and change the narrative of women in DRC.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
90% of women in DRC are formally unemployed and 67% of women go each day with only one meal. At Mamafrica we work with women who have been forced to flee their villages due to the on going conflict. They are resettling in Bukavu will little to no formal education or skills, which makes it impossible for them to find employment resulting in the inability to feed their children, educate their children, or provide for their families.
How will this project solve this problem?
When you support Mamafrica your money is going to help the women we work with build hope in their community with the ultimate goal of empowering them to stand proud and independent. We provide opportunities for employment, skill acquisition, education, and take away many of the barriers that women face to meet success.
Potential Long Term Impact
We believe the world has allowed violence against women to continue for too long, especially in DRC where sexual violence against women and girls is epidemic. Our programs reflect the basic premise that when women have equity, nations and the world become more secure.
