Help to educate, clothe, feed and provide access to education to some of Mombasa’s most vulnerable children.
The children’s centres in Bombolulu were created by individuals in the community who were moved to address high levels of illiteracy and lack of schooling for local children. With support from the GVI CT, over 500 students are now provided with a daily safe haven where they are taught to read, write, express themselves through creative arts and strive for success. They also receive a nutritious meal at lunch time, and when funds are available fruit or porridge at morning tea time.
Financial insecurity is the centre's greatest challenge but a little certainly goes a long way in Kenya. With support we will be able to provide essential materials and supplies to give these children the opportunities many of us take for granted.
The long-term goal is to purchase a small piece of land to build a school. This would release the children's centres from the pressures of finding monthly donations for rent and free up funds to invest in education and feeding programs.
It was a school but the roof was leaking and very low which meant it was very hot. With the new roof we have more ventilation and the children stay dry. (Roof provided by donations to the project) - Steven Tsuria Were, Director, Olives Rehabilitation Centre
