This project will provide nutritional, educational materials and health support for 100 children who has lost their parents as a result of HIV and children living with HIV in Akwa Ibom and FCT States in Nigeria. The project will launch back to school program for children that are not in school, improve the well being of children and treat child related illnesses and ensure that children that have sense of belonging through provision of psycho-social support and child protection services.
According to 2008 Situation Assessment and Analysis report there are about 17.5 million OVC and estimated 7.3 million are children orphaned by HIV and other causes. The situation of OVC is pathetic as they live in deplorable conditions characterized by abuse, child trafficking and other harmful practices that affect the cognitive development of the child. . The project will provide comprehensive care and support services to improve the well being of 100 OVC in two states in Nigeria
HELIN will provide educational materials(payment of school levies, sandals and school uniform), nutritonal and food support, healthcare services for children. The project will also involve community leaders , caregivers and legal practtitioners to provide safety nets for children within their immediate community to reduce child abuse, neglect and traficking. We will also provide psycho-social support through peer education program to build the skills of children on reproductive health issues.
The project will provide comprehensive care and support services to 100 orphans and vulnerable children to improve their livelihood and well-being. The project will go further to train 50 orphans and vulnerable childen on Adolescent and sexual reproductive health. this will improve their knowledge and skills in making an informed decisions. The project will also launch Back-to School Program for OVC' in dire need.
