Summary
Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. It costs just $10 to provide a life-saving bed net to prevent this deadly disease
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Malaria is the number one cause of illness and death of refugees in Africa. As such, the UN Foundation and its Nothing But Nets campaign have partnered with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to protect over one million refugees from malaria in Africa. This project will seek to protect 70,000 refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from malaria. Malaria is still the leading cause of illness and death in the DRC.
How will this project solve this problem?
In partnership with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), we will distribute 35,000 life-saving bed nets to 12,000 households with an average of one bed net for every two people.
Potential Long Term Impact
Nothing But Nets is working with global partners to achieve the international goal to end malaria deaths by 2015. The effort to protect refugees from malaria is vital to achieving this global target and DRC is of significant importance.
Project Message
As a parent, I feel that it is an injustice that 3000 children die every day due to a mosquito bite. It takes just $10 to send a net and save life. I am convinced everyone can make an impact.
