The current shelter is a 20 X 20 shed and no longer maintainable. A new larger facility is needed to provide good clean housing and allow volunteers to work and make pets more adoptable.
The current shelter can house about 7 dogs and a few cats. With the population growth of Newberg, we need more kennel space. Currently cats and dogs are in the same room, which causes animal stress. It is not large enough for volunteers to work with the animals and make them more adoptable. It's too small and in too poor condition to be open to the public. There are no public hours of operation for the community to view adoptable pets.
A new larger facility will have a medical examination room, grooming facilities, kennels with inside and outside runs. A heated floor and air conditioning will keep the temperature comfortable for the animals. Volunteers wil have room to work.
If this facility is not available, the local community will need to use the County or State facilities, which are already over burdened. Local lost pets will not be given a second chance.
NASF members have been committed to completing this project. We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and very close to our goal, but still remain short on funding. We're not giving-up!
