Look What You Did!

Mighty Kids at MW West
Mighty Kids at MW West

At Mighty Writers, we don't have to wait until Thanksgiving to say we're thankful for you.

Because you did all this in the past year by supporting our efforts:

  • Opened the doors to Mighty Writers West so 700 kids in a second underserved neighborhood can benefit from their own supportive writing community.
  • Ensured that we could hire veteran journalist and longtime Mighty Writers volunteer Annette John-Hall to lead programs at our new West Philadelphia location.
  • Helped 75 high school kids attend our free SAT prep classes, with an average score increase of 212 points.
  • Launched an all-out book drive (in response to the closing of school libraries) to collect and distribute more than 3,000 books to kids and families in the city.
  • Inspired 40 afterschool Academy students to complete six in-depth writing projects, replete with intense revision processes, completely outside of school hours.
  • Raised our capacity for one-to-one mentorships from 30 to 50 mentorship pairs.
  • Supported volunteers as they designed and delivered more than 50 writing workshop classes for hundreds of students.
  • Introduced 20 high school students to local college campuses like Temple University, Rutgers-Camden, West Chester, St. Joe's and the University of Delaware.
  • Helped one first-generation college student get a Gates Millennium Scholarship to cover her entire college tuition.

Without your support, this list would not be nearly so Mighty.
