With the recent failure of the government to promulgate a new constitution, the approximately 7 million youth of Nepal are angry, frustrated and disillusioned. This web-based platform is providing a positive outlet for the talent of Nepal youth as well as a safe place to meet, discuss current issues and practice leadership.
Nepal Youth Network dot com is an online platform for positive discussion, idea sharing and showing the talent of the youth of Nepal.
The youth population of Nepal is approx. 7,000,000 with 50% or more having no jobs. Many youth were involved in the ten year Maoist revolutionary war and remain frustrated and angry by the state of politics in their country. They have no common platform to organize in productive ways and begin the process of creating a national youth identity that is non-violent.
In the first week this site garnered over 80 youth members who created 7 youth groups, 48 friendships and made over 443 posts. Two polls were created that resulted in 11 votes and most promising of all a group called "Youth Parliament" was created where youth are attempting to put themselves in the role of parliament members to hold intelligent discussions on the issue of their country. This is a social network tool with a focus on positive and productive conversations and youth in the arts.
This platform is quickly gaining popularity with youth as a place for serious discussions, productive interaction and sharing of talent among youth. The youth of Nepal need a voice and this platform gives them one. We've recruited a number of non-youth mentors to help as well. There are over 1.5 mil. facebook users in Nepal so youth understand how to use social platforms. Getting them to use a social platform for positive change in the country gives them the voice and outlet they need.
