The NCSD Elementary Arts Program centers on teacher as artist and educator. Teacher's grow and learn art forms and teaching methods to share in their classrooms throughout the district.
Shifts in cultural diversity, population growth and the economic crisis, have caused financial resources to be continually challenged. The downturn of the economic climate, particularly the high rate of unemployment, has directly impacted schools. The district 2010-2011 school budget cuts will further reduce the district’s ability to provide arts education. Providing this kind of training for teachers enables them to integrate arts education into classroom instruction.
The program has the continued support of the NCSD Board and Staff. These funds will assure that this program remains stable. In particular, funds will be used to support providing professional development for all participants.
Increase student participation in the arts. • Create model units of study that integrate arts into core subjects. • Increase teacher core art knowledge. • Evaluate the impact of integrated units (arts & core) of core achievement.
