Financial contributions from this project will support The West’s emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors and their families. Last year we saw the need for shelter increase dramatically an
Domestic violence is an issue negatively affecting our community and we are seeing more women and children die than ever before. Locally there have been at least 22 deaths due to domestic violence in the last six month period. As the fatalities increase resources to provide services to survivors have decreased and we are faced with having to do more with less. Last year there 3,274 requests for emergency shelter we were unable to meet.
The West provides emergency shelter to help women and children stabilize after the trauma of domestic violence. During a survivors stay within our emergency shelter they are provided meals, essential needs resources (diapers, feminine hygiene, etc.)
We will provide emergency shelter to 150 women and children with your support in the upcoming year.
