The Bizung School of Music and Dance is thriving thanks to your support and belief that anything is possible through the power of music. As donors, you chose to share your generous spirit and resources with a community of children you’ve never met and we are so grateful. As part of our goal to support music education for children in Ghana we have been able to make exciting, new accomplishments.
The Bizung School was invited to participate in a prestigious music competition, the New Music Ghana Festival on June 20, this was an occasion to feature the talent and progress of the students. The Festival, sponsored by Arterial Ghana, Goeth-Institute and German Cultural Center in Accra, included the best musicians and dancers from across Ghana's Northern Region. Our students practiced diligently for several weeks to prepare for the competition. The school placed fifth overall, an exceptional accomplishment considering some of their fellow competitors were elders who had been performing for several years.
In addition, we have increased the number of students by 100, giving us a total of 200 students! The open-air classroom expansion and van along with new, experienced teachers have helped grow this program.
We still have more to go! A permanent building for the recording studio has been in construction. The studio will provide a valuable opportunity to introduce more students to the art of recording and could become a source of revenue through rental fees for local and regional musicians.
Thank you once again for your generosity and for helping us bring joy, laughter and hope to children around the world.
Exciting things are happening at the Bizung School of Music and Dance! We have expanded in amazing ways to bring music and dance to even more children in Tamale, Ghana. Our teachers and administrators were concerned that some of our brightest existing students would be unable to continue taking music classes due to personal circumstances that made it difficult for them to travel to the school. Thanks to the leadership of Bizung Music School Founder Mohammed Alidu and a very generous donation, the Bizung School of Music & Dance now has a van!
The van will not only allow dedicated music students to continue their lessons, but it will also expand our reach to even more children within the greater community of Tamale. By simply adding a source of transportation to the school, we can now improve more young lives and impact a larger community through the beauty of music.
This year I traveled to my hometown of Tamale, Ghana to oversee the completion of new classrooms and initiate a recording class for the Bizung School of Music & Dance. The construction for the summer hut is complete and recording classes are underway! It has been an exciting year for the Bizung School of Music & Dance.
In addition to the exciting new updates from Ghana, the Playing For Change Foundation has lauched the 'Stand By Me' Scholarship Program. Stand By Me Scholarships provide funding for students, including those at the Bizung School of Music and Dance to attend PFCF music programs for an entire year. Being home with the students in October, I saw how much the kids really give and share their knowledge and ideas with one another and help each other learn. These kids have the inspiration and will to learn. It's great to be able to go there and not only teach but also jam and feel the rhythm from these kids and the energy that they bring every day to school. It lifts me up and I LOVE THEM!
