The High Atlas Foundation is proud to announce the Moroccan Film Festival: Second Edition on October 28th-29th, 2011 at New York City's Tribeca Cinemas. The Moroccan Film Festival has set the stage for Morocco to showcase on an international screen its voices, multiculturalism and filmmakers. The Festival is a special opportunity to raise support for projects in rural Morocco--led by the High Atlas Foundation--that build the economy and strengthen the environment of disadvantaged communities.
Morocco has been the location for US and European filmmakers since the 50’s. Often, Morocco masquerades as some other “exotic” locale in such hits as Black Hawk Down and The Bourne Ultimatum. But as those movies were being made, Morocco was quietly developing its own film industry, producing as many as 15 features and close to 50 shorts annually. Unfortunately, most of these are rarely seen outside Morocco or the film festival circuit.
This year's Festival will not only expand the parameters of Moroccan film and strengthen the bridge between the Unites States and Morocco, but also be a fundraising avenue for Moroccan community projects in fruit tree agriculture, clean drinking water, women and youth empowerment, and participatory development training. Scheduled over two days, this international cultural event will kick-off in New York City on October 28th with the opening gala.
The High Atlas Foundation is screening 12 films by Moroccan directors, many of them US premieres, that highlight themes that run deep in Moroccan society: the conflict between tradition and modernity, the rising power of women, and the allure of Europe and America. Your participation is greatly valued and is not only an integral part of raising awareness of Moroccan film and HAF development projects, but is a perfect platform for reaching a Moroccan and American audience for your company.
