More Information About this Project

Project Needs and Beneficiaries

Doctors without Borders reports that 5,300 people were wounded in the 2009 assault on Gaza. The World Health Organization estimates that 20,000-50,000 will experience long term psychological illness. With the steep increase in the number of persons with disabilities, Al Basma Club for the Disabled (ABCD) has become a treasured oasis, increasing its membership and services as best it can. However, special needs require special resources – and the blockade of Gaza rarely lets these through.

Activities

You’ll send supplies directly to ABCD on an Irish boat joining the Free Gaza Flotilla that will attempt to break the blockade this spring. Start with your donation, then call your elected representatives to urge safe passage.

Why this Project is Important

Potential Long Term Impact

Over 100 members of Al Basma club will benefit from the organization's improved capacity. In addition the 1.5 million people of Gaza will receive the shipment as a message of hope for the day Gaza will be opened and its economy revived.

Project Message

When we first worked with the deaf, they played football in the street. Now that they are affiliated with ABCD they have much more self confidence and have learned how to work together as as a team.
- Eid Shaqura, Chairman of the Al Basma Club for the Disabled
