Linda Acen has granted a free interest bearing loans to support 10 women living in slums on the outskirts of Kampala city so that they start their businesses for income generation. These women are taken out of 1000 beneficiaries.

HopeOfiriha will be providing awareness and skill training in five subjects: business operation, book keeping, gender development, customer relationship, and awareness training. We still have 990 women on waiting list who are desperately in need of help to start a small enterprise. Poverty has torn women apart and they need our help to gain their state of being.

Sudanese women are facing extreme poverty which means that poverty in their community is over 100% since several women don’t even have $1 to spend a day. There are other serious problems which they are facing as well: lack of foods, and house rent. Most families are being forced to leave because they cannot afford to pay monthly house rent on outskirt of Kampala city. These women are not working and are not being supported in anyway.

A discussion of these issues would only lead to “no conclusion”, but no one doubts that these problems supplement each other on a daily basis.

It is because of these issues that we see free interest bearing loans an important factor in their lives. Anything we can do to give poor Sudanese refugee women a better opportunity in life, we will do, because giving a business is opening their lives that could help them rise above the difficult conditions which they were born.

On June 16 2010 between 12:00 am and 11:59 EST (GMT-4), GlobalGiving will be matching at 50% all online donations up to $ 1,000 per donor per project! In addition to the 50% match, GlobalGiving will be offering a $1,000 bonus to the project that raises the most funds that day and a $1000 bonus to the project that receives donations from most individual donors!

To help Sudanese women in Uganda we encourage you to make a cash donation to take the opportunity of the matching fund.

Thanks for your support,
