Thus far, we have raised $85 through GlobalGiving towards our goal of $4,000 to assist with in-country transportation and really need your help. Mfangano Island has roughly 19,000 residents, depending on the time of year and is separated by a giant mountain in the middle. On the half of the island where our bike shop is located, there are 200 motorbikes and 1 car. Bikes have arrived to the island and the demand has been fantastic! The team has sold through the inventory and we are sending off another shipment on 4/8/2013.
Can you image how life will change? Access to healthcare, access to school, access to the market to sell crops are now a reality, and they can all happen multiple times a day.
From the bike shop..."I can’t forget to mention the rate at which the rides have increased in the island as now every man and women can ride the bikes including 3 years old kids. This is a big impact to this remote island in terms of transport is concerned. "
Bicycles for Humanity Colorado puts 100% of the funds we raise back into the cause. We have no overhead from paid staff as we all volunteer our time.
