Summary
We built a 24/7 medical facility primarily for orphaned and vulnerable children but also for the local residents in S.W. Haiti, near Les Cayes. Visiting doctors and dentists always draw big crowds. Recently, a cardiologist, two family practitioners and a dentist visited us and barely had time to breathe. They taught locals at our clinic and in the local hospital. Although some meds are donated, we need to purchase others, pay the staff and maintain the facility. You can help us with this.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
There is a severe lack of affordable health care in Haiti, particularly in rural villages. Curable and preventable diseases, compounded by malnutrition and lack of clean drinking water, claim the lives of many young children. The infant mortality rate is about 10X greater than the US.
How will this project solve this problem?
Our clinic, lab and pharmacy provide round-the-clock, comprehensive medical and basic dental services, primarily to children in Hope Village. Urgent or preventive care plus health advice is offered to indigent families from nearby villages.
Potential Long Term Impact
With improved diagnostics, vaccinations and medications available, children in or near Hope Village in southwestern Haiti will lead healthier, longer lives. Medical care and health instruction will enable adults to better care for their families.
Project Message
"A base of operations for local public health initiatives led by local physicians and nurses provides cost-effective primary healthcare services to the children of Espwa and surrounding communities."
