Appeal Letter for Mann Deshi Champions

An idea is born…

Mann Deshi started a business school for rural women in 2006. While working with women, we realized that a major issue for women is not just the lack of training and capital. A lack of confidence and family support is the main hindrance for women to start and succeed in business.  Their behavior pattern is set at very young age.

In 2008, Mann Deshi started focusing on young girls between 13 to 18 years by creating a special course to support them to think about their careers and to help them to develop a professional career. In this process we realized they lack of confidence, which we believe should already be built at younger age. The idea of a sports program came into life.  Under this program Mann Deshi focus on girls at the age of eight, provide them an opportunity to play.

The beginning…

Mann Deshi Champions is driven by the objective to invest in children through sports at a younger age helps them to gain confidence and vision for profession carrier. Mann Deshi bought one hectare of land and built a 400 mtr. track field to conducts athletics and gymnastic sports among young children.   Three sport coaches are hired, and Mann Deshi has started to offer free training in athletics, foot ball, volley ball, hand ball, and other games.

Without any advertisement – just letters to the principal of the local school – over 250 children showed up and have since been trained.

Achievements so far…

We have now a constant number of 250 children, boys and girls, training with us on a regular basis. We have distributed sports shoes and sports gear to all these children, whose families would not be able to afford any of it.

All children receive a nutritious meal after training, because we want to supplement the often insufficient nutrition these children receive at home.

Not only have we seen great achievements on the program as a whole, but we have also seen individual’s achievements.  Lalita Babar, a young woman who is from Mann block, won a medal in Athletics in the Asian games.  We look for more champions.

A vision for the future…

We want to improve the track field and buy additional sports equipment. Also we would like to extend the reach of the program even further by providing additional transportation options for children. Also, our intention is to implement a health program in which every child will get a medical examination and required treatment.

The program is already looked at by other branches and we plan to start a similar program in the other Mann Deshi locations, as funding allows.

This sports program will help young women to gain confidence.  Your support will help to build their careers.
