Dear Friends of Maria's Libraries,
Thanks so much to all of you who participated in our most recent fundraising drive, on June 13. I'm pleased to annouce that in total, we raised over 3,000 dollars for our activities in Busia. Our partners in Busia asked us to send a special asante sana from them. I'm also pleased to annouce that Claire Fontaine was the winner of the art raffle. We'd love your feedback on that-- if you'd like to participate in another art raffle in the future, please let us know!
Mama Mtoto is moving merrily along. We're gathering all of the participating libraries in Busia to discuss the experiences of each sites, and to discuss options for running the program again. We'll also be producing a training manuel for other libraries to be able to implement Mama Mtoto in the future and meeting with other community librarians from all over Western Kenya to communicate results from the program. This training is being generously funded by the US Embassy Information Resource Office.
Our major final fundraising push is to re-publish the books that the mamas wrote for sale. Currently we're exploring options to get them professionally produced in conjunction with our partners on this project Africa Soma. We hope to be able to sell them on each site, and in the US and Europe, to fund future rounds of the program. Our current fundraising for Mama Mtoto will go towards the up-front costs involved in publishing the books. Attached is the picture of the book from Busia.
As ever, feel free to get in touch with ideas, comments, questions.
Many warm wishes,
Eva and Ariel
