The Public School of Mal Pais is on the road to a beautiful transformation, this year has brought many positive changes for the school and community!!! In February we welcomed ESL teacher Sara, from the USA, her students are all smiles and their progress with the English language is incredible. April welcomed teacher Alexander, who teaches the national curriculum. His arrival has been huge for the school, allowing for smaller student grouping and for the school to remain open when the director has to attend meetings. The Art program has been a great success with nearly all students participating. Actually, two students were chosen to represent the school for the national Art Festival last week. We hope to have a bigger budget in the future, to allow for music, dance and drama so we can continue to inspire and excite the students with the Arts.
There have also been numerous repairs to the school infrastructure and grounds. The project helped set up a new classroom and several local businesses sponsored the project to allow for the much needed repairs and general grounds clean up. This time of year Dengue fever and snakes are a serious threat.
For next month the project has organized a community Carnival fundraiser, we hope to gather sufficient funds to build another small classroom, and paint the school exterior. As always the list is endless, but the will for change is strong!!!
