Dear Supporter, The month of May was Science Fair Time in Costa Rica and all of our graduates from the Mal Pais Education Project were excited to present their projects to the judges, their parents and peers. All the students now attend Escuela Futuro Verde in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade and it was great to see how well they have been doing in their studies since they left Mal Pais. We were amazed and proud by all of our graduates who put a lot of effort in their projects, especially our native Spanish speakers who presented this year in English! Our graduates continue to leave us in awe with their enthusiasm to learn and their excellent report cards. Their parents feel very proud of all their wonderful achievements and the teachers at Escuela Futuro Verde are also exceptionally pleased with their progress academically, socially and emotionally. The Science Fait was such a wonderful opportunity to be a part of with so many of our past students and seeing how they are all thriving and continuing to grow each and every day. Thank you for all your support, together we make a difference! All the best
Is it March already!? We trust you had an amazing festive season with your loved ones and that the Ney Year is treating you well.
Since our last report in December, things have been really busy in Mal Pais! Our 12 new sponsor students have arrived and are settling in well. We are excited to see them progress through the course of the year. Our three new volunteers have also been a tremendous help and helped us to kick off 2015 with a brand new construction project!
Thanks to your funding, we have been able to build a new classroom for our pre-school. Although the construction has been slow over these last few months, we are proud to announce that the room has finally been completed with a beautiful mural that they children helped to paint as well!
With the addition of this extra room, we will be able to increase our capacity and help more children in the local area get the education they deserve during this crucial phase in their young lives.
Thank you for your continued support.
All the best,
December signals the end of term here in Costa Rica and another graduation for us. This year we are sponsoring four new students to attend Escuela Futuro Verde in 2015 and continuing the sponsorship with our three students from last year. We also have 12 sponsor students in our pre-school program for 2015. Three new volunteers joined the team and we are looking forward to the new year.
We have a bunch of fundraiser ideas swirling around for 2015 and we also hope to start construction on a new classroom at our Mal Pais pre-school location. We have been very busy these past few years and it's hard to believe the project has already celebrated three graduations, we are all feeling very nostalgic. The students painted their teacher made graduation hats in lots of different colours and they are all very excited to make a small presentation to their parents. On graduation day the other pre-school students will make a percussion band and form to rows to welcome the graduates. We will finish the celebration with a parent collaboration "Potluck" lunch. Then it's off to 1st grade for our graduates!
We would like to thank you all for your interest in our little education project and wish you all a wonderful New Year!
All the best
Last month all our project volunteers were very busy making crafts to sell at our Crafts Fair, a successful fundraiser we held last week. All the crafts were made by the students from our pre-school program and our volunteers. We were literally crafting machines! Parents showed support by donating baked goods to sell and we also had a raffle. All proceeds of the event were added to our sponsorship program fund. The Fair was very popular and we raised nearly a full years tuition for one graduate student to attend Escuela Futuro Verde in 2015. It was an enjoyable day for the community and everybody asked - "When's the next Crafts Fair!" So a lot of positive feed back and we're already planning another for the end of the year.
We also have a busy September planned. We just celebrated on September the 9th, "Dia del Nino" which is a day in Costa Rica to celebrate children. We had a really fun party for all our pre-school students, full of laughter and silliness! September 15th, is Costa Rican Independence Day. We have been busy preparing for our annual parade and parent presentation. All the students will wear "Ropa Tipica" which is typical traditional clothes and we will all sing the national anthem, the song for Independence Day and the students will demonstrate a traditional dance, then we'll have our parade in the village of Mal Pais. We'll finish with a collaboration lunch of "Comida Tipica" which is typical traditional food. It's a very colorful and flavorful day and always lots of fun. We look forward to sharing photos with you all next month.
Many thanks to you all, for your continued interest and support with our community education project. We are very grateful and appreciative of the support. Together we are the change!
