Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Update

Come join the fun!
Come join the fun!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a powerful and inspiring opportunity to unite as a community to honor breast cancer survivors and raise awareness about steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of getting breast cancer.

In 2013, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Portland, OR has raised more than $200,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight back against this disease with breast cancer research, information and services, and access to mammograms for women who need them.

The progress being made in the fight against breast cancer is incredible but we won’t stop until we finish this fight - and we can’t do it without you!

Did you know that…?

  • The American Cancer Society invests the most in research of any non-governmental organization to find, prevent, treat and cure breast cancer.
  • Today, 1 in every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer reach out to the American Cancer Society for help and support.
  • The American Cancer Society is in every community providing free information and services and ensuring access to mammograms for women who need them.
  • Since Making Strides began 20 years ago, breast cancer death rates have declined 32 percent.

THANK YOU to everyone who has already supported the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. There are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors who celebrated another birthday last year because of people like you who made a donation.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Update

There is HOPE!
There is HOPE!

Since the American Cancer Society’s first Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event 20 years ago breast cancer death rates have declined 32 percent, and 8 million walkers across the country have raised more than $460 million. The progress we're making because of Making Strides supporters is nothing short of remarkable, but we still need your help to FINISH THE FIGHT against breast cancer.

We are continuing to raise money to reach our 2013 goal of $200,000 and we need your help more than ever! With your support, we are saving lives by:

Helping People Stay Well

We help people understand what screening tests they need and the steps to take to protect themselves from breast cancer by developing prevention and early detection guidelines that are the industry standard.

Helping People Get Well

One in every two women newly diagnosed with breast cancer reaches out to the American Cancer Society for help and support. We are in every community providing free information and services when and where people need it. If you need someone to talk with at 3 a.m. (or any other time of the day or night), we’re here. If your friend is losing her hair because of chemo, or your mother needs a ride to treatment, or if a loved one needs a place to stay while in treatment away from home, we are the ones who can help.

Finding Cures

The American Cancer Society invests more in research to find, prevent, treat, and cure cancer than any other non-governmental organization. Unlike some organizations that support only breast cancer research, we also fund research to find cures for all types of cancer, because we know that discoveries in one area can often help find answers in another. As a result, we've played a role in nearly every major breast cancer research breakthrough in recent history, including establishing mammography as the standard for breast cancer screening, discovering lifesaving treatments, and better understanding factors that can reduce our risk of getting breast cancer.

Fighting For All Women

We fight for every woman threatened by every cancer in every community. We know that finding breast cancer early, when it is easiest to treat, can mean the difference between life and death. So, we provide screening guidelines, educate the public and health care professionals, and help ensure access to mammograms for women who need them

Thank you to those who have already made a donation to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign! We can’t finish the fight against breast cancer without your support!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Update

MSABC Survivors
MSABC Survivors

The American Cancer Society just wrapped up its 11th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and thanks to our donors, we have raised more than $140,000! However, we still need your help in the fight to end breast cancer and to reach our goal of $180,000.  With the funds you donate to Making Strides, you are helping to save lives in many ways:

The American Cancer Society is the leader in the fight to end breast cancer and all cancers that affect women. We invest the most in research of any non-governmental organization to find, prevent, treat, and cure the disease. Currently, breast cancer research projects are under way at institutions across the country, thanks in large part to funds raised by Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

  • One of every 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer reaches out to us for help and support.
  • We are committed to connecting people facing cancer with the information, day-to-date help, and emotional support they need in the communities where they live to help them get well.
  • We’re in every community providing free information and services and ensuring mammograms for women who need them.

Thank you to all of our supporters and those who have already donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. We appreciate your support in helping to create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.
