Make-A-Wish estimates 27,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition annually and thus may be eligible for a wish.
A wish experience is frequently a source of inspiration for children undergoing difficult medical treatments and a positive force that helps them overcome their obstacles. A wish experience is often the catalyst that rekindles a child's belief in themselves and the promise of their future.
According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family.
