My organization focuses on providing community service opportunities for underserved communities including children, senior citizens and developmentally disabled individuals. I would like this project to make 500 blankets. I will work with a senior citizens' center to make 250 of the blankets. I will work with a local elementary school to make 200 blankets, and I will work with the local Best Buddies chapters to make the last 50. The money raised goes towards purchasing fleece for the blankets.
There are very few community service opportunities for children, developmentally disabled and senior citizens. My organization brings community service to these individuals - providing a much needed service to these underserved communities. My blanket design is simple so that if you can tie your shoes you can make a blankets and you can make a difference.
I have already showed over 3000 children the value of community service through their assistance in making my blankets. I want to continue to reach the underserved populations to show them that the can help the world one blanket at a time. My design is simple and an army of people can make the day better for a child in an emergency situation or an animal in a shelter.
Community service in America has been declining. I believe that by engaging children they can see the joy that come from community service and see how easy it is. I believe that by engaging senior citizens and developmentally disabled individuals I can tap into a wealth of energy and willingness to make a difference. My organization has made almost 10,000 blankets and I want to make another 500.
