Summary

Violence which includes torture, stoning, unnecessary killings and other forms of human cruelty against animals is notorious in this part of the world. Reason being that there are no specific laws governing the treatment of animals. The passing of an animal protection legislation will no doubt serve as an animal cruelty preventive mechanism, thus reducing the brutal sufferings of animals in the hands of men.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The challenge facing the community is rampant animal cruelty and neglect in the form of starvation, abandonment, torture, brutal killings, inhumane transportation, amongst others. For example, violent conflict had always ensued between cattle farmers and crop farmers due to crop damage by cattle left on free range. Most of such violent conflicts has often caused loss of of the animals lives, human lives and property. The legislation will substantially address the highlighted challenges.

How will this project solve this problem?

The project will no doubt solve the problem (animal cruelty) simply because the passed animal cruelty/protection laws will be used to bring to book those found in conflict with the law. Moreover, it will create a culture of fear amongst the other community members knowing fully well that they will have to pay heavy fines or perhaps serve jail sentence if found guilty of violating animals.

Potential Long Term Impact

The unnecessary suffering of animals including pets, livestock and wildlife will gradually dwindle to the extent of non-existence! The community too will dwell in a violence-free society, as these laws will help address the previous conflicts that has existed between them (crop and animal farmers), neighbors and pets owners etc.
