Summary
The project is relevant because local inhabitants transform their reality through literacy, while volunteers learn from the community and transform their reality as well.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In Mexico, illiteracy has been throughout its history an issue that has never been solved. Focusing on remote communities, the education problem is even worse. Our social work takes place especially in the central region of Mexico, in states like: Michoacán, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Queretaro. We enforce our efforts to provide educational and cultural tools for illiterate people with low resources in order for them to achieve a full development in their daily lives.
How will this project solve this problem?
The project consist in two main working periods: 1) Young volunteers are capacitated in teaching methods. 2) During the summer volunteers teach adults and work in projects proposed by the community based on the knowledge acquired during the classes.
Potential Long Term Impact
Participation and organization around the exercise of human rights in the community.
The community values education. Its individuals continue their educational process once we leave.
Project Message
Literacy its an act of love, courage, an enforcement of freedom.
