What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Fonkoze is committed to accompany Haitian women and their families out of poverty and improve the quality of their life through loans and literacy training. Fonkoze serves women throughout all departments of Haiti, including many difficult to reach rural areas.
How will this project solve this problem?
Three month literacy modules are offered covering basic literacy, business skills, and health education, including disease prevention and HIV/AIDS. Participants learn to read and write while learning ways to improve their businesses and health.
Potential Long Term Impact
This project provides literacy modules for 3600 women to obtain the necessary skills to build their businesses and support their families. In addition, it helps create the economic foundation for a strong democratic society in Haiti.
Project Message
We believe you can't just give a woman a loan and send her own her way. You must accompany her as she struggles out of poverty. Fonkoze is a lasting institution for the poor that does this.
