LIFE (Leaders in Furthering Education) Humane Heroes Club is an after-school program developed to teach children the vital role animals play in our lives and in our world. Our goal is to create a generation of young people dedicated to the work of building more humane communities for animals and for all of us. LIFE Humane Heroes Clubs gives today's children a voice in the compassion movement, educates about the value of the human-animal bond, and teaches them how to advocate for animals in need.
The overall goal for American Humane Association is to give our children and animals the healthiest, happiest and safest places on earth to live, flourish, and thrive. We believe the three decades long decline of social capital - evidenced by lower levels of social, civic, and political participation, a drop in professional memberships and decreased involvement in community-based projects - is a threat to the health and well-being of the most vulnerable among us: our children and animals.
Engaging children on the grassroots level will best achieve our goal to raise public awareness about how investing in animal welfare and our children can increase the health and cohesion of the community at large. Through a comprehensive set of after-school enrichment activities and curricula, Humane Heroes Clubs gives today's children a voice in the compassion movement, educates them about the value of the human-animal bond, and teaches them to advocate for animals in need in their communities.
Our intention is to provide educators and youth leaders with quality resources that will assist in supporting students' knowledge of current, humane topics. We aim to establish a Humane Heroes club in each of the 50 states, reinforcing best practices for healthy pet ownership and fostering values of compassion in thousands of children across the country. Finally, we aim to pursue collaborative relationships with existing youth programs that promote volunteerism and community engagement.
