The Libyan Diabetes and Endocrinology Association (LDEA) carried out the second of two large (1000+ visitor) public testing and awareness campaigns in late 2012. An initial allocation of $3000 is in the process of being transferred to LDEA, to cover medical and logistical costs associated with the most recent event, held in Maidan Al Shuhada' (central Tripoli square). Plans are being made to support further diabetes/hypertension testing and awareness events in the near future, to which GG-raised funds will be applied. The Avicenna Group has identified two graduate students at the University of California, candidates to provide survey design and statistical analysis for an LDEA-originated health assessment within the cities of Tripoli and Al Homs. We are also actively seeking to match LDEA with architects to help with initial design of a new diabetes clinic on the outskirts of Tripoli. Avicenna Group is working to integrate LDEA into a Libya-focused medical exchange project backed by the US Embassy-Tripoli and the University of California at Berkeley.
