New Year - New Goals

The beginning  of the new year brings the expectation to start fresh and make improvements in all we do. This year we are working with the Department of Justice to increase the availability of funds for our organization. We were able to get an award from them that will help us with the caregivers in our organization, which as you know is a 24 hours a day operation. Various ladies, I call them angels, spend day upon day of caring, feeding, changing diapers and otherwise being aunties and mommies to those in our care. This past semester we have had special needs in particular with a little boy that had malformed legs. Through the service of Hogar Infantil Jesus Nazareno, we took him to various doctors and specialists and is currently in line to be operated on this coming month. The social workers assigned to his case suggested we keep him here after the operation for the recovery period as they understood how our influence and care would help in his quick recovery. We were also successful in obtaining a Legislative fund assigned to cover MRI costs for another of our kids. These types of expenses are either, not normally covered by the insurance provided by the state, or the facilites that offer them are so overcrowded we often get appointments for months in the future while the law usually allows us to keep a child for no more than 90 days. Often we pay medical costs out of our operating funds to obtain immediate treatment and assessments as in the case of psychological or psychiatric visits.

On a lighter note, we celebrated our annual "Bohemian Night", with music provided by a local group called Herminia, and two members of the group "nota" Craig and Edgar who gave their time and talent so play for a group of donors, employees and family members. This fundraising activity was a success and lots of fun as well, the children prepared some wall art using their hand and footprints to decorate the activity hall.

From the fiscal standpoint, our auditors completed our annual audit for the last fiscal year, we were given a clean opinion, and are already getting ready for next year's audit. I thank all our friends and hope you continue to support our organization.
