Kind People, a locally-initiated project sponsored by Global Grassroots, is addressing women's lack of access to property rights and its relationship to domestic violence and family conflict.
In the Karambi Sector of Rwanda, Kind People will educate between 400 and 500 people through a series of community trainings for couples. According to team leaders, most community members are uneducated about the legal rights of women and the importance of legal marriage to protect a woman's rights to property inheritance. Only through awareness and community support, will these patterns begin to change.
After conducting workshops on gender equality and the laws protecting women, project leaders will encourage community members to start advocacy clubs to act as a resource for women who may still fall victim to continued domestic violence.
After 1 year, Kind People is estimated to reach between 400 and 500 people, resulting in an increase in the number of women who can access their property, as well as a decrease in family violence in the community.
