Summary
Empowering village women with legal awareness training will make them better able to address issues of dowry, sexual harassment and domestic violence.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
In the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, the most poverty-stricken area of the state, women have been able to escape conditions of destitution and provide for their families with access to revolving loans and vocational training from the S.F.T. Training Centre. The Centre now seeks to provide legal-awareness training and set up a legal-aid center.
How will this project solve this problem?
The S.F.T. Training Centre will provide legal- awareness training for community women’s groups; set up awareness camps, which address the specific issues of dowry, sexual harassment, and domestic violence; and create a legal-aid center.
Potential Long Term Impact
An understanding of their fundamental rights will allow the women of the Telengana region to lobby the local government for legal changes.
