I recently received a travel grant from KKOOM, but before I talk about the trip I’ve had for almost 2 weeks in America, I want to introduce myself.
Hi everyone who supports [KKOOM and GlobalGiving,] I’m Hyedong You. I’ve lived with more than 100 people in Samsungwon orphanage since I was 5 [in Gumi, South Korea]. I studied Electronic Engineering in university and I’m going to graduate this February. When I was young, I sometimes complained about why I was in that orphanage. But now, I know how blessed and wonderful I am.
These are the phrases that I used in my recent job interview: “People often think [about] and call my home a very unfortunate matter, but I think I’m rather blessed and gifted because I, not only could have big family with love but, I also could learn about reaching out and bringing people together through this.”
As I had a bit short time to look around all over America, I just decided to go see over LA and Las Vegas. I got to LAX airport in the early morning on 18th December. I felt a bit tired as I was on the flight for a long time, but by the time I got to LA, I felt really refreshed and energized by the warm and fresh air in LA. My friend came to the airport to pick me up, and this is the beginning of my trip in America. There were a lot of things to do in LA. I went to Universal Studio, Getty Museum, Korean Bell of Friendship, Hollywood, Griffith observatory and more.Overall, I liked these places pretty much. There were lots of different atmospheres I could feel in each places.
First of all, Hollywood, the historical center of movie studios and movie stars, impressed me. I could see a lot of stars that has movie stars' names in the street.. And as I like architecture, I really liked to see the Getty Museum. There were a lot of people visiting this place and they looked pretty amazed by the paintings, masterpieces, books, etc. Even though I’m not a person who knows well about the art, history of the cultures, I enjoyed seeing different kinds of paintings and many interesting kinds of things. I could even see about a 300 years old Bible.
At last, I can’t forget the night view of Las Vegas. The city was decorated with beautiful lights, LEDs and tourists' enthusiasm. I could see the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, Pyramids, and so on. I felt I was really lucky because I could see a number of landmarks of the wold, even I didn’t go to each country personally. In order to feel the atmosphere of Las Vegas, I decided to see a show happening in the center of Las Vegas. I really wanted to see “Big O show” which is the most popular and the oldest show in Las Vegas, but it was already fully booked. So instead I went to see a show called "Zumanity." I couldn’t stop laughing during that show because it was so hilarious.
I had a great time in America, and I can’t really believe how quickly the time has gone by. I know I couldn’t really make it [without your] concern and support. I really appreciate your help and concern. I promise I’ll return the favor and love that I’ve had in my life. I [want to] establish a scholarship foundation in the future so that I can also help people who [don't have many chances] to achieve their dreams. I’ll pray for your health and beautiful life. Thank you very much.
