Relief Inc.'s KIS sponsorship program will create real, long lasting change for 231 children and their communities. We at Relief Inc. believe that we have to address the literacy and nutrition issues that are facing the children in Liberia. Relief Inc. understands that we have to help break the cycle of poverty and despair that was caused by the 14 1/2 years of Civil War.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The community is challenged with the following issues: The negative impact of the civil war on women and children, lack of educational resources, things like teachers, books, writing instruments and other essential resources. Because the children are our future, it is critical that we restore stability in this area. The 14 1/2 years of civil war has had a devastating impact on vulnerable societies. There are approximately 82,614 people in New Kru Town with 40,000 of them women and children.
How will this project solve this problem?
Relief Inc. is helping to fill this void by soliciting much needed support from people, philanthropists and other organizations who are interested in furthering the development of women and children. We will provide books, teachers, adult job training, school supplies and a library. We believe this will help create an environment where self-sufficiency can become a reality.
Potential Long Term Impact
Over the long term, our programs will help people obtain the needed education and job training that a healthy society needs. Knowledge is power! History has taught us that the more educated a population is, the brighter the future. Qualified teachers can have a major impact on thousands of children. Our goal is to educate 231 children with this project and to equip them for the future thus breaking the cycle of poverty.
