The ground is broken.
The unique combination of soccer, life-skills activity and HIV testing continue to make the Maseru Street League a success. Now roaring into its second year of operation, Kick4Life held a special Groundbreaking Ceremony during the latest football tournament in honor of the new Lesotho Football for Hope Centre!
The Lesotho Football for Hope Centre is a product of the “Football for Hope” movement, which uses the power of the game for positive social change. It is led by FIFA and streetfootballworld, a centre of expertise that connects a global network of organizations in the field of development through football. “20 Centres for 2010” is the name of the Official Campaign of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. The aim of the campaign is to create twenty Football for Hope Centres for public health, education and football in disadvantaged African communities as a legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on the African continent.
Kick4Life has been selected as the host of the new Centre, to be located in the capital city of Maseru. It will provide a broad range of programming for all Basotho youth, with facilities including HIV testing and counseling rooms, a resource library, an IT room, a classroom and even an artificial football pitch.
Check out a great article on the FIFA website about the event!
