After its first full year of operation, the Maseru Street League is proud to report to you a range of information which will give you a better idea of what this program is about, and how you are specifically helping Kick4Life change lives through football.
In August 2009, Kick4Life began giving orphans and vulnerable children in the capital city of Lesotho a chance to play 7-a-side soccer in a safe, educational environment. Along with soccer, the kids participate in K4L activities, which teach them life skills and stress the importance of knowing your HIV status. K4L also provides voluntary HIV testing and counseling on site in the privacy of testing tents, conducted by experienced nurses and counselors.
From August 2009 - August 2010, the league has:
... reached at least 546 youth in Maseru (the total number of kids who have attended at least 1 tournament).
... tested 167 youth (63 males, 54 females) for HIV, which is about 30% of all participants.
... facilitated 8 games from the Kick4Life curriculum.
... conducted an HIV knowledge survey of 139 participants.
... taken 150 of the most committed participants to see World Cup matches.

The next year will be bigger and better, kicking off with a huge "Test Your Team" Event on Friday September 24. This event will feature all the Street League teams, as well as five other schools from around Maseru. By putting an even stronger emphasis on testing and providing more tents and counselors, we hope to test at least 150 participants in one day! As always, the event will be a colorful combination of music, dancing, theater performances and a lot of soccer.
