Summary

The Los Angeles Conservation Corps was formed to assist at-risk young adults in achieving economic self-sufficiency through employment and educational advancement. The transition program provides employment placement, college support and life coaching to 50 at-risk young adults (18-24 year old young adults). This project will dedicate employment specialists to secure jobs, internship and education opportunities that match participants career and employment goals.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

The high rates of unemployment among young 18-24 yrs olds create economic disparity and instability that affect future generations. The jobless and underemployed rate among at-risk young adults increases in this age category. The LA Corps serves youth from the most economically disadvantaged areas is Los Angeles County. We provide services to 18-24 year old young men and women withou a high school diploma, who need help overcoming barriers to secure employment or a college education.

How will this project solve this problem?

Employment and education opportunities create economic advantages for young adults living in Los Angeles. The LA Corps' Transition program staff works with 50 young adults throughout the year, individually and in groups, to identify and remove barriers to employment and to provide support services that empower young adults to achieve their employment and career goals. This project provides certifications, employment and life skills training to assist in the participants successful transition.

Potential Long Term Impact

The LA Corps Transition program serves over 50 young men and women per year, directly decreasing the high rates of unemployment among young adults 18-24 years old and creating economic prosperity and stability that benefits present and future generations. Direct employment search and career support provides hope for participants and their families. Our projects goal is to increase employment and education opportunities and contribute to the economic advancement of young adults living in LA.
