Memories That Come With Anniversaries

By a male, 46-60 years old , in Kakamega, Kenya
Map of Memories that come with anniversaries "What are you planning for our anniversary this year?" I recently asked my husband. We then got talking about the different ways we had celebrated over the years and how it was an occasion we looked forward to. it was not lost on us though, that for many couples anniversaries are not necessarily anything to look forward to. You may have come across that chauvinistic joke that when a man steals your wife, there is no better revenge than to let him keep her. As horrified as I was to read it, in the context of celebration o anniversary signifies trouble rather than triumph. Instead of drilling on the triumph of having lived together than triumph. Instead of drilling on the trouble comes in many could be the trouble of living with a hopeless drunk who causes misery to his wife and children. or it could come in the form of violence. The lists endless. To put it another way, some couples, its actually a triumph that they managed another year together and each still alive! By Miriam Ongoma. Read more.

A Turn For My Change From Street Life.

By a male, under 16 years old, in Kakamega, Kenya
Map of A Turn for my change from street life. My name is Brian and I have been staying as a desperate by on the streets of Kakamega having dropped out of school when I lost my self esteem following my parents' demise way back in 1999. I knew that my life would not amount to any thing and that everyone was an enemy including feeling that not even God had any love for me. It is at this point that I even hated myself trying to throw myself twice from a tall building. I then resorted to the street life where I spent more than 3 years. One day in 2010, last year. Officers from WEAEP came to me with a message of rescue and repatriation. To me who didn't have parents, the plan was that as they counsel me and restore my psychological system they enable me get a place of stay and take me back to school. Plans are underway but I desire to get a sponsor to help me more reliably. Read more.
