By providing Kenyan girls with reusable sanitary pads and life-saving HIV prevention information, Huru International gives them the resources they need to complete their education and live healthy, successful lives.
Many Kenyan girls are forced to skip school because they lack access to sanitary pads. This often causes them to drop out of school, which leads to an almost inevitable economic and social disadvantage in the future. Many are forced into a life of poverty causing them to turn to prostitution as a means of income, which increases their risk of HIV infection. Huru Kits provide reusable sanitary pads and HIV prevention information to help girls complete their education and safeguard their health.
Huru Kits contain 8 reusable sanitary pads, 3 pairs of underwear, detergent soap, a bag for storage and HIV prevention information in a drawstring backpack. The girls receive the kits in educational seminars that engage the community and give them the opportunity to ask important questions.
Huru has already helped 18,000 girls (and counting!) stay in school, creating opportunities to pursue the future of their dreams. Huru’s commitment to local production also creates sustainable jobs for members of the community.
