Field visits and 2014 scholarships

With students and staff at SHED, Sonapur

Our volunteers made multiple visits to the schools in Assam, India where we have been sponsoring the students for theu education. I have in particular made trips to the Integrated School of Society fo Health & Educational Development (SHED) in Sonapur and the Parijat Academy at Gorchuk both near Guwahati.

Guwahati is a major metropolitan city in North East India, but Gorchuk which is just 10km away from the main urban area did not have a proper educational facility till Uttam Teron started Parijat Academy on his own land with whatever capital he could muster. Today Parijat Academy is a flourishing institue where around 800 kids are getting education. In 2013, AFNA sponsored education for 20 students n Parijat Academy. We have a plan to continue with the same amount this year too.

SHED has moved to a new location and started its own Integrated School where kids with special physical and mental requirements can mingle and learn freely with their peers with no special requirements and at the same time can get the special attention needed to meet their requirements. Last year AFNA [rovided scholarship for 14 students. This year we are planning to do the same.

Tapoban is another residential school in  Pathsala, around 100km west of Guwahati. The Student Welfare Committee that runs Tapoban has been running it with whatever the little donation it receives from the welwishers. The school is providing shelter to 22 students with various disablities, most of whom are abandoned by their parents. AFNA is happy to sponsor 21 of those students with yearly scholarships of $100 each for the current year. Due to the urgent situation in Tapoban, we have already disbursed the scholarships early this month.

We sincerely thank our supporters who have been providing us with financial aids, guidance and encouragement. We are looking forward to meet our goal of sponsoring 100 students this year.
