Summary
The 2010 World Cup will be the first ever hosted in Africa. Our project uses the historic occasion to inspire youth and unite a network of social entrepreneurs from Kampala 2 Cape Town around the MDGs
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Along a route from Kampala, Uganda to Cape Town, South Africa, in communities where electricity and televisions are a luxury, big screen viewing venues will be established for youth to enjoy the first World Cup in Africa. The venues will become hubs of activity during the 30 days of the World Cup.
How will this project solve this problem?
The Kampala 2 Cape Town Launch Program will use the first African World Cup as a platform to build its activities and network to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. (http://www.undp.org/mdg/basics.shtml)
Potential Long Term Impact
The long term outcome of this event will be the development of a network of African youth who can shift the paradigm of budget based development to sustainable, organic socioeconomic development for Sub-Saharan Africa in the 21st century.
Project Message
"Many know about World Cup on the continent, but many will not watch because they do not have television or electricity. This project is an opportunity for them to watch, learn and enjoy."
