Since last year Saúde Criança began a new area in the income generation project.Now we are giving classes in the cooking area.That was a request from the mothers assist.They want to learn how to cook delicious things to sell in their community.
This month , there is 16 mothers doing the course and they are learning how to do and then will sell chocolate eggs for Easter.
Next month they will begin a course in party snacks.
For the second consecutive year, Saúde Criança was voted the best social organization in Latin America, according to ranking published by the Swiss magazine The Global Journal. Of the 100 best NGOS in the world, Saúde Criança was ranked 45.
Last week, 34 mothers assisted by Saúde Criança graduated in a cosy party at Saúde Criança headquarter.They finished their courses in the beauty area and cooking area.
Saúde Criança donated for each one, a packet of tools to begin to work.
December was also very important because effectively marking our expansion beyond Brazil’s borders, the Associação Saúde Criança inaugurated its first franchise abroad, Saúde Criança Colombia. The opening ceremony will take place at Javeriana Pontificial University in Bogotá, Colombia.
Vera Cordeiro, founder and CEO of Saúde Criança and Ashoka social entrepreneur, will preside over the event with a lecture on the history of the social franchise. During the event there will be an exhibit with paintings done by Colombian artists, and drawings done by the children treated at San Ignacio Hospital, a partner institution with SC Colombia.
The inauguration will be attended by Dr María Lucía, Director of Ashoka Colombia; Martha Naranjo, founder and executive director of Saúde Criança Colombia; Jorge Adrian Naranjo, Chairman of the board and founder of SC Colombia, Vicky Colbert, advisor to Child Heath Colombia and founder of the Escuela Nueva Foundation; and Dr. Julio César Castellanos, Director o San Ignacio university Hospital.
Saúde Criança Colombia will begin to assist its first five families in January of 2013. At the end of next year, Saúde Criança Colombia aims to raise the number of families helped by the innovative methodology of the Saúde Criança Franchise to forty.
The son of Maria de Lourdes, Rogério, was born with sickle cell anemia, a hereditary disease that causes malformation of red blood cells. But it was not until the boy passed by a surgery appendage to it was discovered that the problem of their severe abdominal pain was not appendicitis. Referred to Hospital da Lagoa, the disease was quickly diagnosed and the boy was treaty. The life of Maria de Lourdes, however, was already seriously affected.
Separated from her husband, she could not work. Due to the constant child crises, Maria de Lourdes spent the time leading Rogério to the doctor or watching him while in the hospital. Working as a Maid and manicure, frequently she was missing work: "I felt like a useless woman," she says. "When I got a steady job, he got sick and I had to miss." With self-esteem shaken Maria was refer to Saúde Criança. That's when everything began to change.
She took a professional course of manicure, hairdressing, makeup and colorimetry. Rogerio made the beauty course to be a hairdressing and in his grandfather's house, set up a small salon with barber chair donated by ASC. Maria de Lourdes is transformed: "Now I feel like a true professional!"She says, adding that with the increase of income already managed to buy a sink and a chair manicure. She wants to work with the child and it is already planning to expand the salon, with floor and door donated by ASC.
Rogerio goes well with the disease controlled and Maria de Lourdes sends a message to mothers that are coming to Saúde Criança: "Do not miss this opportunity, enjoy. Saúde Criança has been a blessing in my life. "
"Hi, my name is Rosa and today I'm taking a course on manicures and hair removal, so later I will be able to have a salon of my own to work and be a professional. For his, I am thanking all the employees for the opportunities that has been granted to me. I ask god to always enlighten us. Before, I didn't know how to raise my daughters alone. Today, I am well organized and have help for my children, mainly due to the course which I will be able to have my own income."
