Last year was the first annual Job Shadow hosted by Step It Up, Inc. and local businesses around Portland. Thanks to your support, young adults from all areas of the Portland Metro area gained valuable and essential experiences shadowing careers in business, marketing, engineering and more!

We would not have been able to do it without you, and judging from your feedback, you had a great time too!

  • "The youth were very engaged and really wanted to be here. I wasn't expecting them to be so professional." 2012 Job Shadow Host at Umpqua Bank
  • "We really enjoyed interacting with our three youth attendees and fielding their questions. Love the curiosity of their minds!" 2012 Job Shadow Host at Wieden+Kennedy

The experiences don't stop there though. 2013 is coming up fast and you have another opportunity to provide this wonderful opportunity for our teens. This is an experience they will never forget and in the words of one youth from 2012, "The best experience of my life"!

Job shadows help teens bridge the gap between school and career by allowing them to discover new career fields and business sites they have never heard of before or had only dreamed of visiting. Job Shadow participants learn about new career fields, businesses and real jobs as well as how to relate to people in the professional workplace. This type of personal link also helps teens to understand that family-wage careers are within their reach if they are willing to apply themselves at school and succeed in college.

Thank you again for your contributions; without your support, these teens would not have this valuable opportunity!
