Summary

Japan Platform (JPF) funds to local and also worldwide NGOs working for the 3.11 earthquake and tsunami relief projects in Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima and other prefectures where affected evacuees live. We hold two local offices and monitor our funded operating projects to support for better achievements and evaluate their work. We also assist cooperation, coordination, and information exchanges among the supporters working in the disaster area to deliver specific needs for the people.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Currently there are many NGOs and business community supporters working at the disaster area and other prefecture, but without any restriction and not enough communication, information exchanges with other acting actors. As a result, specific needs and support are not delivered promptly and effectively to the people. As well, construction plan for restoration housing are being scheduled, though it is a big part of the restoration process there are more support needed in a local level.

How will this project solve this problem?

JPF will support local and worldwide NGOs working for the relief project by funding their projects, regularly evaluating their project work and by giving effective advice. Furthermore, bring together different supporting actors (NGOs/NPOs, government, social welfare committee, and business community) working in the disaster area for better communication, cooperation, and exchange information by opening temporary meetings and matching specific needs and aid for the people.

Potential Long Term Impact

JPF will fund worldwide NGOs/NPOs working on relief projects at local level, in order for them to continue long term to support the needs of the affected people. By creating a unit of supporting actors, JPF will be able to create a base for coordinating the supporters with the needs of the people and creating a restoration process where the needs and the aid match together smoothly. JPF will take part indirectly, though an important actor to create a unity among the supporters.
